MELASMA

Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation characterised by brown or grey-brown skin patches that are darker than the surrounding skin, most commonly affecting the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. The people who usually develop melasma are pregnant ladies, ladies who take birth control pills and people who have darker skin tones. Melasma is usually triggered because of hormonal changes.

Hyperpigmentation can be caused by other skin conditions, like acne and other skin inflammations, which can leave dark spots on the skin. Also, the causes of hyperpigmentation may be injuries to the skin, surgeries and others. Another form of hyperpigmentation is freckles. They are formed because of genetics and can appear anywhere on the body.

All these forms of hyperpigmentation can get even darker when the skin is exposed to the sun. This happens because melanin protects the skin from too much exposure to the sun and absorbs ultraviolet rays. This way the skin gets tanned but already hyperpigmented areas get even darker and more pronounced. Therefore wearing a high SPF is crucial.

Even though hyperpigmentation is usually a harmless skin condition it can cause people to lose their confidence. At Anew

Cosmetic Clinic, patients can reduce or eliminate hyperpigmentation with the help of different treatments like lasers and advanced chemical peels.

CHEMICAL PEELS FOR HYPERPIGMENTATION

Peels have proved to be tremendously useful agents for melasma both as a sole treatment as well as a combination treatment along with other hyperpigmentation treatments. Chemical Peels help in the overall rejuvenation of skin by exfoliating dead skin cells, unclogging the pores, and increasing cell turnover. Thus hyperpigmentation is decreased, and remodelling by collagen regeneration occurs. Chemical peels can be of different types. Weaker chemical peels can treat superficial dark patches. For more severe hyperpigmentation stronger peels are used, but only by professional expert doctor.

TYPES OF CHEMICAL PEELS

There are several types of chemical peels that effectively address the issue of hyperpigmentation.

ADVANCED FACE MASK

Cosmelan® peel is an advanced facemask for skin-lightening treatment that can eliminate up to 95% of the hyperpigmentation, caused by excessive production of melanin. It can improve sun and age spots, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is safe for all skin types.

This chemical peel decreases the production of melanin with its ingredients – Ascorbic acid, Titanium Dioxide, Azelaic acid and others.

The treatment involves applying a mask, after which the skin is peeled off and a more even skin complexion is revealed. The skin tone is brighter because melanin concentration is reduced.

The treatment results are visible relatively quickly. After 10 to 14 days the skin blemishes start to improve and the skin restores its healthy glow. The full results of this treatment are seen after 2 months. To maintain the results, special after-care products are used at home.

Dermamelan® peel is an ideal treatment for reducing hormonally caused hyperpigmentation, such as lentigo or melasma. A Mesopeel treats facial and bodily hyperpigmentation. It can also improve skin tone and sun-damaged skin. After the treatment, the skin restores its healthy glow. The treatment involves applying a mask that should stay on the face for 10 to 12 hours. The skin starts to peel off 2-3 days after the treatment.

This chemical peel is safe for all skin types and is effective in treating the pigmentation . It doesn’t require a long recovery period and provides fast results. The patients can see up to 80% of skin tone improvement in the first month after the treatment. The full results are seen after 3 months.

Note :- To achieve the best results, special after-care products are used at home.

OTHER CHEMICAL PEELS

Other common chemical peels include Mesopeel variants and TCA peel.

Trichloroacetic TCA acid peels can effectively treat hyperpigmentation and are medium or deep peels. This acid can penetrate deeper into the skin than other chemical peels so it is suitable for deeper concentrations of melanin.

The effectiveness of a chemical peel depends on the concentration of the chemical solution. Weaker chemical peels can reduce hyperpigmentation in multiple treatment sessions whereas more dramatic results are achieved with deeper peels.

DOWNTIME AND SIDE EFFECTS

Chemical peels can cause some side effects mild irritation and sensitivity to the sun on few skin types . Chemical peels are most effective on lighter skin tones because there is a lower risk of severe side effects.

CLIENT REVIEW

What is the difference between Mesopeels and other Chemical Peels?

The LUMENIS LASER solution - A PROCEDURE FOR MELASMA

The M22 Laser works by delivering pulses of light energy to the treatment area; as these pulses hit the complexion, they target parts of the skin that are a different pigment shade than surrounding healthy tissue. That means any type of pigmentation – be it from sun damage or scarring – will absorb the light waves. After the absorption, the pigments will begin breaking down and eventually become absorbed by the body. Patients may need multiple sessions of M22 laser treatments to see their ideal results.

FAQ'S

Is It Painful?

The M22 Laser treatment isn’t painful; in fact, most patients report feeling a warming sensation on the treatment area during the procedure. After the procedure, you may feel a slight sensitivity to your skin. It’s important to keep your skin protected from harmful UVA/UVB rays, as your skin will be particularly sensitive to the sun. We recommend wearing a sunscreen of at least 50 SPF.

Am I a Good Candidate for the M22 Laser?

You’re a good candidate for the M22 laser treatment if you have signs of hyperpigmentation (like brown spots), sun damage, and significant facial redness. Not all skin tones will be right for the M22 laser, so it’s important to schedule a consultation to see if you’re a good fit.
