Why Root Canal treatment?

The natural cavity located in the middle of the tooth is referred to as the “root canal.” It is made up of the pulp chamber which provides nutrients and nerves to each tooth and the ‘canals’ that connect to each other or to the surface of the root of the tooth using connective tissues. An opening left by a cavity in the tooth allows bacteria to enter the tooth roots.

If left untreated, these bacteria can result in infections and the formation of pus-filled pockets or abscesses at the tooth roots. This may cause the patient to feel excruciating pain and swelling, which may extend to other parts of the head or face. Root Canal Treatment Procedure

  • Initial Consultation
Firstly, our endodontist will conduct an X-ray oral examination for your teeth and gums. Upon analysing the extent of damage on the impacted tooth, the dentists will then determine a suitable course of root canal treatment.
  • Administering Anaesthesia
Next, dentists will numb the area of the infected tooth using local anaesthesia. Other sedation options such as IV or oral sedation are provided upon patient’s request.
  • Dental Dam Placement
Before commencing the root canal treatment procedure, a dental dam is placed upon the area of the procedure to isolate the tooth and keep it dry during the process.
  • Access Hole & Pulp Removal
After making a tiny incision on the crown of the tooth, the pulp is then removed using small dental instruments, to remove the nerves, blood vessels, and tissues inside the infected tooth.
  • Shaping & Filling the Canals
Successively, the visible pulp chamber and root canals are cleansed and disinfected. Then they are covered with a temporary filling material called gutta-percha, a flexible, rubbery dental substance.
  • Sealing the tooth
Following, a temporary dental filling is positioned in place to seal the tooth, and to prevent any bacteria from re-entering the tooth.
  • Positioning the Final Restoration
If dental crown is needed for permanent filling, our endodontist may prepare it suit the patient’s tooth. Once the dental crown is prepared, the dentists will remove the temporary fillings and position the crown in its place.
